CREAM OF THE CROP

Post picks for Buick Classic at Westchester Country Club:

1. TIGER WOODS: Sure he hasn’t played well here in two tries, but Tiger’s got his ego to deal with, and winning for the first time in the world’s biggest city still has to be checked off his list.

2. ERNIE ELS: He’s a two-time winner here and, though his year has been poor, these pleasant-memory surroundings might spur his game.

3. SERGIO GARCIA: Played well at the Open, played well here last year and is more mature and ready to handle some more success.

4. DAVID DUVAL: Lost in a playoff here last year, played fairly well at Southern Hills and might break through this week.

5. VIJAY SINGH: Another two-time winner here, is always a factor at Westchester. He’s also coming off a scorching final-round 64 at the Open.

6. DENNIS PAULSON: Some courses are for horses, and this one suits Paulson, who’s the defending champion.

7. PAUL AZINGER: He’s playing very well right now, having shown well at the Memorial and the Open. He, too, has played well here.

8. BRANDEL CHAMBLEE: Another player who played well last week and is an up-and-coming player who plays the tough courses well.
