SKILLED ‘CHEESE’

JEFF Garlin (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) has his filmmaking debut with “I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With,” a slight but charming DIY feature in which he plays a binge-eating Chicago comedian who lives with his mother.

Identifying with the love-starved Bronx loser in “Marty,” Garlin’s character has a brief but frightening affair with an attractive but psychotic ice cream parlor employee (Sarah Silverman) before having more luck with a slightly askew schoolteacher (Bonnie Hunt).

Garlin, who expanded “Cheese” from an autobiographical one-man stage show, has a rudimentary feel for visuals but gives plenty of elbow room to a solid comic cast that includes such pros as Amy Sedaris, Paul Mazursky, Roger Bart, Dan Castellaneta, Richard Kind and a lesser-known colleague from Chicago’s Second City troupe, David Pasquesi.
