Jets RB Chris Johnson lied to cops about second gun

Jets running back Chris Johnson actually had two semiautomatic handguns in his car when he was arrested Friday in Orlando, Fla., according to the arrest report.

The report revealed some new details about the arrest that led to a misdemeanor weapons charge for Johnson.

An officer pulled Johnson over after watching him fail to stop at a stop sign just before 9 p.m. Friday. When the officer approached the car, he saw the handle of a handgun on the floor between Johnson’s legs along with a backpack with “$100 bills on the outside as a design,” according to the report.

The officer asked Johnson if there were other weapons in the car, and Johnson said, “No, that is the only one.” The officer then asked Johnson and a passenger to step out of the car, the report says.

As Johnson left the car he seemed to have something else he wanted to tell him, the officer wrote in the report.

“I asked him if he wanted to tell me anything and he replied, ‘Yeah, there is actually a second gun in the bag on the floor,'” the officer wrote.

A second semiautomatic handgun was found in the backpack. The guns were a Glock 9 mm and FN 5.7 mm, according to the report.

Johnson was charged with open carrying of firearms. He was booked into the Orange County Jail and then released on $250 bond, according to the report.

The Jets signed Johnson to a two-year, $4 million contract last April. It was doubtful even before this incident the Jets would bring him back. Now, it seems highly unlikely.

Johnson rushed for just 663 yards and one touchdown this season. He was a shell of the player he was in Tennessee when he once rushed for 2,000 yards.
