THESE FANS ARE ‘X’-CITING

They’re known as X-philes, and they’re obsessed with the hit TV show “The X-Files.”

Now there’s a movie about these fans. It’s called, naturally, “X-Philes,” and it will have a screening Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. at the Knitting Factory (74 Leonard St., between Broadway and Church Street).

“The series has a really huge cult following,” says Julie Goldman, producer of the 52-minute documentary.

“But what’s different from ‘Star Trek’ is that this fan base is built on the Internet. These fans have multi-daily relationships with each other on the Web.”

“X-Philes” includes interviews with the series’ creator and actors, as well as with the show’s true believers.

It shows fans who go to conventions dealing with UFOs and aliens, regardless of their connection to the show. Then there are the people who follow the crew around, hoping for a glimpse of a star.

Goldman is married to Chris Clements, who directed “X-Philes” along with Maria Bowen. The three met 12 years ago while studying film at Brooklyn College.

* The Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Film Festival is going to Cuba.

Three movies that were shown at the Brooklyn event back in May will unspool Dec. 12 at the Havana Film Festival.

Marco Ursino, who runs the annual Williamsburg shindig, hopes that this will be the start of something big.

“We’re looking forward to getting some Latin American films from the Havana festival to show at ours,” Ursino says.

* Judges at the Torino Film Festival in Italy – which generally favors Asian and European flicks – pulled a surprise when they gave their top prize to an American drama, “George Washington.”

Directed by 25-year-old David Gordon Green, the film uses a cast of young, racially mixed non-professionals to chronicle life in a North Carolina urban wasteland.

In New York, the indie flick can be found at the Two Boots Pioneer Theater on East Third Street.
