JAGR COULD COME CHEAP

Jaromir Jagr has informed Glen Sather that he’s willing to accept a trade to the Rangers without having first received a contract extension, a reliable source has told The Post.

Jagr, who has two years at $20.7 million remaining on his deal with the Penguins, would come to the Rangers prepared to play under his existing contract, were that Sather’s preference, the source said. At the same time, the 29-year-old winger would be amenable to negotiating an extension of the deal under the team’s time frame.

“Jaromir isn’t putting any road blocks in the way of Mario [Lemieux] being able to make a deal,” the source said. “There aren’t any preconditions involved.”

Jagr, who has led the NHL in scoring in each of the last four seasons and who scored 52 goals while doing so this year, would be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent upon completion of the final two years of his contract.

The Rangers are one of two teams – the other believed to be Dallas – to have received permission from the Penguins to negotiate with Jagr and his representative, Mike Barnett. Word is that at least two other teams are on the verge of seeking such permission from Pittsburgh GM Craig Patrick.
