Min-wage bill push

ALBANY — Assembly Democrats will introduce legislation today that would increase the minimum wage from $7.25 to $8.50 an hour beginning in 2013, a source told The Post last night.

Starting in 2014, increases would be permanently indexed to the inflation rate.

But Senate Republicans and business leaders are expected to oppose the measure and it’s not likely to pass, said a Democratic source.

Gov. Cuomo, who has supported an increase in the past, has not indicated his position on the proposal but has said he wants to make the state business friendlier and has promised to “review any proposal that is made’’ about the minimum wage.

Mayor Bloomberg has said he will support an increase but has not specified an amount.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has said she would back a bill requiring companies that get city subsidies to pay a minimum of $11.50 an hour or $10 plus benefits.
